Here are reflections from past interns on their time at MACC:
The MACC internship experience has provided me a healthy avenue to mature in my faith, develop as a leader, and thrive in ministerial work. Having interned for back-to-back summers at Mack Ave, I have come to appreciate the authentic covenant community that exists in the 48214 community as much as I have enjoyed the work I have been performing. Being thrust into discipleship and a small group has allowed me to do life with other men and women of faith that passionately seek to exalt Christ as Lord and Savior in every way. I have been deeply encouraged, yet also challenged to focus on areas in my life and character that need tuning in order to become more like Christ. In any ministry internship, the ultimate goal should be to grow in the truth of the Gospel, and I am grateful for the commitment to biblical truth and character excellence that has allowed a sinner like me to rejoice constantly in the beautiful mystery of Jesus Christ's gift. Being able to work on what I love, while doing life in the 48214, being on mission for the sake of the Gospel, has provided me a renewed energy as I seek to explore God's will for my life.
Where do I start? My time at Mack Ave has been nothing short of fantastic. I have had the opportunity to grow in maturity and be challenged by people around me in ways I never was before. I have learned how to vocalize and express how I feel and be able to face confrontation with others. I have had the opportunity to be pushed to share my faith and grow in my knowledge and understanding of my mission as a believer. I no longer see being a Christian as being something I do on Sunday mornings, but that it is something so much more holistic that involves every part of my life. At Mack Ave I am learning what it is to live amongst a people that are real, authentic, and broken who aren’t trying to sugar coat things all the time. People want to see redemption happen here and are excited to be used of the Lord. It has moved me to elevate my view of God and come to an understanding of his greatness and my depravity. Only in His strength can I move forward as his child proclaiming his truth and walking this journey of faith in the midst of community. I can’t do it solo and for that I am all the more thankful for my experience here.
Being an intern at MACC means that you instantly become a part of the Mack Ave family and that means that you are cared for, encouraged, and challenged in every way. The work of the internship is a part of the entire mission of the church, which is to proclaim the gospel and care for the needs of the community. As an intern I was challenged to grow in boldness in sharing my faith and was given avenues to do so with the support of the church body. For me, being a part of a MACC group was one of my highlights of the summer as I was able to see how the church was vulnerable and honest with each other in their faith but also how they truly cared about the 48214 and worked together to show Christ’s love to their neighbors. MACC cares about the growth of each member of their church and I have been extremely blessed and changed by their commitment to walking with me in walk with Christ this summer.
